~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - Natural Self Care Newsletter - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ In this issue: ~ Message from Kelly ~ The Eating Season ~ Active Compensation ~ Tele-Programs *************************** Hello Everyone - Long time no newsletter. I have been busy preparing my book for final publication. Will keep you posted on the release date. In the mean time, the 164 pg pre-publication is still available: If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It *************************** ~The Eating Season~ Welcome to the beginning of "the eating season". October starts with Octoberfest, including beer, brauts and heartburn; and ends with Halloween and a stream of addictive candy readily available on every desk and countertop. November brings Thanksgiving weekend filled with eating, drinking, and socializing. And December soon follows with the Christmas holiday, and an almost continual month of more eating, drinking, and socializing. Then a week later, to end the year in good company, we once again indulge in another evening or two of unbridled eating, drinking, and socializing. (Not necessarily in that order.) This eating season is the time of year when bad eating habits can become ingrained into a lifestyle that even a New Year's resolution may not be able to reverse. It's become the American way. To compound the problem, this season also brings shorter days and decreased activity. We spend more time indoors and immobile. At the same time we're eating more, we're moving less. *************************** ~ Active Compensation ~ There are action steps you can take to pro-actively compensate for this immobile eating season, however. Of course, you don't want to miss out on the occasions and what they have to offer, but you don't have to allow them to consume you either. Following are simple things that can help: 1 ~ Plan Indulgences ~ You can enjoy without excess. Plan ahead in terms of what goodies you will indulge in - and stick to the plan. Planning ahead and allowing, yet limiting your indulgences is a great way to participate in the food fun, while keeping yourself from getting out of control. 2 ~ Restore Balance ~ When you do indulge, take measures to restore the balance of your body/mind system. Always drink plenty of purified water. And if you are experiencing any kind of stomach upset, bloating, headache, etc., having a "green drink" is one of the best remedies available. Simply mix a 1/2-1 teaspoons whole food green powder, in a glass of 8-12 oz. pure water. For this purpose, I most recommend Green Kamut wheatgrass juice or Just Barley juice. In some cases, a tablespoon of organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Flax Seed Oil can do wonders to prevent or relieve bloating as well. 3 ~ Exercise ~ In general, movement is essential to promoting circulation and elimination and is another great way to offset the effects of too much partying. Walking, running, yoga - anything that gets you moving will help. Anything that gets you sweating, is even better. 4 ~ 24-Hour Fast ~ Give your digestive/eliminative system a rest with a rejuvenating 24-hour fast. This is most easily done by eating a healthy break- fast in the morning, then not eating any solid foods until the following morning. Break your fast (breakfast) with a piece of fresh fruit or lightly steamed vegetables. Another way to keep your system in good order during the harsh months of the eating season is to regularly replace a meal or two with a mixer full of the Plant Based Nutrition System. This nutritional survival kit is composed entirely of super foods that have been carefully selected to nourish at the cellular level, activating your metabolism and boosting your immune defense. Including the PBN super foods as a regular part of your diet is a wise thing to do any time of year, and especially helpful for getting you through the party season in the best shape possible. *************************** ~ Lectures/Tele-Programs ~ In September I travelled to Tucson to give a lecture at a private school entitled: "Our Popular Food Culture - Focus on Refined Sugar", followed by an all-day healthy eating seminar. I wholeheartedly support and applaud this school and its administrators for upholding a "No Sugar" policy in contrast to the many public schools that seem to be pushing it. See previous article on soda in the schools for more info on this topic: Denver School Board talk The talk and seminar were both a tremendous success. I am always appreciative for the opportunity to speak on the topics about which I am most passionate and serving people in this way. If you are interested in having me speak to your group or organization, either in person or via telecon- ference, please call me or visit http://www.foodfitnessbyphone.com/media/exposure.htm for more information. I will be announcing the upcoming 2004 Food Fitness Tele- Programs schedule soon. Watch for the newsletter or check the website. *************************** ~WHAT'S A TELE-PROGRAM?~ Tele-programs are conveniently conducted via tele-conference call from wherever you are.
