don't eat it!
Out of all the drugs, herbs, supplements, tests, healing modalities, etc., to which
I was subjected, the single most powerful influence in my
recovery from life-threatening illness was - food! As I have continued to eat
predominately for health and refine my individual dietary needs, just as thousands
of others like me, I keep getting stronger, healthier, clearer, and have more and
more energy. Thousands of people have had similar experiences - and you can too!
Never underestimate the power of what you eat and the affect it has on your body.
There is a reason the "health food" industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world today - eating healthy food works!
Whether you want to improve or maintain your current health status, the single most influential thing you can do for yourself is to eat for health. Of course, there are many other important factors to consider when one is on the road to maintaining or creating better health and for further exploration in that realm I encourage you to explore the many resources on this fascinating topic (refer to other articles on this website and Suggested Books for more information).
Discovering and fueling your body with food that truly works for your body is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. It will enhance and assist any healthcare protocols you already have underway, and in many cases will eventually eliminate or prevent the need for them.
Putting food in your system that doesn't truly fuel your body is like throwing wet logs on a fire. It will bring you down, create imbalance in your biochemistry and body systems, smother your life force flame, and leave unwanted debris behind - at first causing symptoms and dis-ease which will then turn into chronic, degenerative and life-threatening disease. Stoke up your life force flame with food that really fuels and nourishes your body, and your body will respond and reward your efforts. You will start feeling better, have more energy and regenerate your body. Once you have been eating for health regularly for a time, your digestive system will strengthen and your life force flame will burn with vibrancy. Your body, mind, spirit and all areas of your life will become energized and radiant.
begin now
So, how do you begin the task of fueling your life force flame with fast burning, fuel-efficient, nourishing and strengthening food that works for your body? One of the best and easiest ways is by following and implementing the Eating for Health program put forth in this book.
At its very core, If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It! pre-publication edition is about putting your health at the forefront of your mind when making food choices rather than your tastebuds (don't worry it is only a matter of time and a little bit of retraining before they will come around to making healthier food their first choice, as well). Eating for health is not a fad or a special diet. It is a return to the natural way of eating that existed before the advent of industrialization and the dramatic changes in diet our culture has subsequently endured - with a little refinement, a little personalization and a little allowance for modern living. It is presented in 5 simple principles and 3 levels that serve as guidelines for eating what is supportive and nourishing to the human body, while taking into account the unique needs of each individual.
The principles are easy to understand and apply. No fancy words or calculations to deal with or remember. And when applied consistently over a period of time, they bring about what many have deemed amazing results. Quite often people experience immediate results as well. It is incredible what the body can do when it is provided with the right fuel - energy is restored, excess weight is shed, body systems are regenerated, disease is reversed and nagging symptoms disappear.
Some may find this hard to believe, but it is really quite natural. It reminds me of what someone was recently telling me about a gas station that was dispensing "bad" gas. It contained sand and other unwanted substances. Not surprisingly, cars fueled at this gas station started having problems and breaking down. In our modern culture it has become the norm to fuel our bodies with overly processed, chemical laden, "bad" food which serves as fuel for our bodies. With this in mind, is it any wonder that 61% of the American population is overweight and degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart problems are on the rise? We don't expect our cars to run well on bad gas, why do we have this expectation of our bodies?
To go a step further, imagine there were a group of people who frequented this gas station that was dispensing poor quality gas, and so did all their friends, family, co-workers, etc. They all had frequent and recurrent breakdowns of different parts of their car as a result and accepted this as normal. Not recognizing the root cause of their car problems, the accepted normal course of action was to then go to the local mechanic and have him/her replace and/or fix these affected parts. Anyone with a broader understanding of this situation would quickly surmise that it would be wise for these poor souls to go to another gas station and start fueling their cars with "good" gas that was appropriate for their particular car.
In fact, if for some fortuitous reason these people started doing just that, they might think it miraculous that their cars suddenly started having less problems and began operating smoothly. While others would not think it was miraculous at all, but rather common sense.
This is exactly what is now going on in our society with regard to our bodies and the foods we consume to fuel them.
What has become known as the standard American diet primarily consists of overly processed food, often refined to the point of having little to no nutritional value, and then further tainted with a multitude of chemicals in the form of preservatives, artificial flavors and colorings. These foods are anti-nutrients and the equivalent of bad fuel for our bodies. Like cars that have been filled repeatedly with bad gas and not maintained properly, these processed foods, when consumed regularly, deplete our body of energy and cause them to breakdown. Bodies wrought with degenerative diseases are bodies that are poorly fueled and maintained (environmental pollutants are a major contributor to this degenerative process as well). As a result, a disproportionate number of people in modern America have bodies that are out of balance, overweight, and breaking down.
Like the group of people in our hypothetical scenario above, we have come to accept this as normal. Similarly, the societally accepted course of action is to then take our ailing bodies to doctors (body mechanics if you will) who then remove, replace and/or prescribe drugs to "fix" the parts of the body that are dis-eased and degenerating. Once again, anyone with a broader perspective on this situation would surmise that it would be wise for us to start fueling our bodies with good foods that are appropriatae for our bodies, as well as performing proper maintenance functions (i.e. exercise, stress management, etc.), rather than perpetuating the illusion that has developed.
Nina and Danielle are just two examples, among thousands, who have done just that. They have made lifestyle changes and returned to eating a natural, whole foods diet - which in turn has changed their lives. Within just a few weeks of following the first level of the Eating for Health program, Nina was not only able to go off her cholesterol medication, but her cholesterol levels actually dropped below what they had been while she had been taking the medication.
Danielle, whose primary goal was to boost her immune system so she didn't have to keep resorting to antibiotics several times during the cold and flu season, found within a short time of following the Eating for Health program that not only was her immune system back on track, but she had also lost 10 pounds, had increased energy and at the height of hay fever season, experienced no hay fever symptoms for the first time in years! These are just a couple examples of the results people have experienced from Eating for Health.
Of course everyone is different and will therefore experience different results depending on a variety of factors, including present and past health conditions, age, weight, current diet, level of exercise, etc. However, anyone who properly follows the Eating for Health program will reap some beneficial results as thousands and thousands have who follow this or similar programs. I absolutely guarantee it.
However, just like anything, what you put into it will determine what you get out of it. And therein lies the challenge. Eating for health is easier said than done for many. After a lifetime of eating in a habitual manner that is supported by our society at large, it is difficult to break free and begin anew. Many people don't even know where or how to begin. For others, changing these habits comes quickly and easily. This is frequently true of people whose bodies have degenerated to a state of great dis-ease. The pain and suffering they endure serves as great motivation for them to make dietary and lifestyle changes quickly. At whatever pace you chose to move, this book will assist you in making the process easier and making the changes lasting.
